Obama’s wishful thinking; Vondell McCoy; Beaver County Times; September 14, 2011.

Mr. McCoy wrote one previous letter (“Leave ‘don’t ask’ up to the troops”) I did not critique.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“President Barack Obama’s core weakness in my opinion, is giving the opposition the benefit of the doubt out of the gate, believing that at the core all people are good and cooperating with the opposition first, i.e., giving them what they ask for, thinking they would be cooperative/reasonable/conducive participants when he stepped before them and asked for support and cooperation.”

[RWC] When did Mr. Obama give “the opposition … what they ask for?”  Even if it were true, why would Mr. Obama’s opposition (whose principles are more or less on the right) “be cooperative/reasonable/conducive participants when he stepped before them and asked for support and cooperation” for leftist policies/programs?  I’ll go out on a limb and assume the voters who elected Republicans don’t want them to support leftist principles regardless of who is President.

“It was wishful thinking, he was and is dead wrong.

“President Obama, if acting on his own volition, is taking the ‘nice guy’ posture too far.”

[RWC] Let’s look at Mr. Barack “nice guy” Obama in his own words.

“We can’t -- we don’t mind the Republicans joining us.  They can come for the ride, but they got to sit in back.” – President Obama speaking to the Democrat Congressional Campaign Committee on 10/25/10.  Mr. Obama’s supporters later assured us his “sit in back” comment was not meant to conjure up images of black Americans being forced to sit in the back of the bus.

“But I don’t want the folks who created the mess -- I don’t want the folks who created the mess do a lot of talking.  I want them just to get out of the way so we can clean up the mess.  I don’t mind cleaning up after them, but don’t do a lot of talking.” – Mr. Obama speaking at a campaign rally for Creigh Deeds (Democrat candidate for governor of Virginia) on 8/6/09.

“If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun.” – Presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) on 6/13/08.

Yep, Mr. Obama is a real sweetie pie.

“You can’t change a thing if the other party doesn’t give a darn -- that’s gansta, it’s unethical and so are the rapists and pillagers of the American political system.”

[RWC] “You can’t change a thing if the other party doesn’t give a darn?”  Mr. McCoy seems to forget Mr. Obama had significant Democrat majorities in both houses of Congress for two years, including a period with a filibuster-proof Senate.  If something Messrs. McCoy and Obama wanted didn’t get passed during those two years, they can’t blame Republicans.

As for Mr. McCoy’s “unethical” comment, it would be unethical for Republicans to run for office as conservatives (more or less) then support leftist policies/programs once elected.

Note Mr. McCoy’s name-calling.

“What has happened with Obama is he got played, and the opposition is milking it for all they can get out of it.”

[RWC] Sure.  In any case, how could Mr. Obama get “played?”  According to his supporters, Mr. Obama is an intellectual and the most intelligent person in the world while his opposition is stupid.

“Definitely don’t say yes over and over before you know for sure that your partners are likewise committed to moral leadership for the greater good.”

[RWC] Again, when has Mr. Obama “said yes over and over” to his opponents?

Note Mr. McCoy didn’t describe what he considers to be “moral leadership for the greater good.”

“Obama has to be careful to not be be [sic] so heavenly minded that he is not of any earthly good.”

[RWC] All I can say is, wow!
